Disc 138, Program 552
Event Date: 13 Nissan 5748 - March 31, 1988
Torah sources relate that when G-d took His people out of Egypt and split the sea for them, the prosecuting angels objected. How were the Jewish people any more worthy of redemption than their pursuers? Had not both served idols in Egypt? The Rebbe finds an answer in Maimonides’ Laws of Marriage, where the latter cites a case of a man who marries a woman, only to discover a fault in her. Maimonides rules that if he was aware of her shortcomings before he married her, then their marriage remains binding. As He entered into a special relationship with the Jewish people, G-d, who is aware of all hidden things, surely must have known what He was getting into. |
