Disc 136, Program 544

Event Date: 20 Kislev 5720 - December 21, 1959

When the match was proposed between the Alter Rebbe, the founder of Chabad Lubavitch, and Shterna, the daughter of one of the wealthiest Jews of his day, the Alter Rebbe set a tough precondition: His dowry was to be used to help settle poor Jews on the land, and help them earn a livelihood.

In the Rebbe’s telling of this story, the Alter Rebbe’s generosity is almost beside the point – but the way he took up the matter with his bride is a living lesson.

Hi. Very nice.

I was under the impression that the name of the Alter Rebbe's Rebetzin was Sterna. (As opposed to Shterna). Reply

in response to DL :

That is correct: At age fifteen he married Sterna Segal, the daughter of Yehuda Leib Segal, a wealthy resident of Vitebsk, and he was then able to devote himself entirely to study. [copied from wikipedia] Reply
