The Talmud relates that the entire Jewish people could dwell in one sukkah. The notion of unity may not be unique to the festival of Sukkos, but it is particularly highlighted by the emphasis placed on guests, not only of the physical kind, but also spiritual guests – in the form of the seven ushpizin, one of whom visits the sukkah on each night of the festival. The message is clear: A sukkah is meant to be shared with others. |
