The Torah mentions the prohibition against judges taking bribes several times, also relating that the Almighty Himself, “does not show partiality nor take a bribe.” Yet we find it stated explicitly that repentance, prayer and charity can sway G-d’s judgment. How can we reconcile these two points? The answer lies in the transformative power of repentance. Done right, it causes a new person to emerge; the old one is no longer there to be judged. |
