The festival is called, “Chanukah – dedication” for it recalls the rededication of the Holy Temple after the Macabees’ victory over the Greeks. The Temple was purified and made holy, and the Jewish people renewed its service with greater love and passion than before.

So too, on Chanukah each year, every Jew rededicates himself to his Creator, with renewed joy and enthusiasm, and in all three realms of thought speech and action, thereby permeating himself with holiness – like the Holy Temple.

And in the spirit of Chanukah – during which we increase the menorah’s light each day – Jewish boys and girls, as well as adults, increase in their joy and dedication to G-d each new day; and they take this enthusiasm into the rest of the entire year, brightening all their surroundings with the light of Torah and mitzvos.
