Event Date: 3 Elul 5748 - August 16, 1988

Torah says of the Tribe of Levi: “G-d is their inheritance” – G-d provides for all their needs. We see this idea with children as well. G-d made nature such that children are unable to provide for themselves. Children need only make themselves a fitting vessel for G-d’s blessings, and their parents are privileged to be G-d’s messengers through whom He provides His blessings.

This is even more apparent with children who are clearly part of “G-d’s Legions,” who go about reciting words of Torah by heart, and especially boys who proudly wear their Tzitzis hanging out – testimony that they are “servants of G-d.”

The Alter Rebbe teaches that during the month of Elul, “The King is in the field” – G-d is here with each of us, in exile, ready to take us with Him to His royal city. And so, may we immediately go together with our “King” to His holy city of Jerusalem, where once again, “the Levite will come” – for every Jew wants to be a ‘Levite,’ and is a ‘Levite,’ for “Levi” means to “cleave,” to cleave to G-d in absolute unity.
