After the Great Flood, G-d swore to Noah to never again destroy civilization. If so, what relevance does this story have today? What “eternal message” does it offer? A Jew might sometimes feel that he stands alone against the world around him. So even before reassuring him that there are indeed many others with him – above all, G-d Himself – we tell him the story of Noah: There was an entire generation in which there lived only one solitary righteous individual. But he overcame, and built a new world and a new way of life. It doesn’t matter whether or not you think you’re strong enough, or whether or not you’re alone... When it comes to disseminating goodness, uprightness and justice – and most importantly, Torah and Mitzvos – one person can change the whole world. |
