This letter was addressed to R. Chanoch Hendel Havlin, one of the members of the Lubavitch community in Jerusalem.

B”H, The Festival of Redemption, 19 Kislev, 5709

Greetings and blessings,

[This is] in response to your letter of 29 MarCheshvan. My letter of 23 MarCheshvan1 no doubt reached you in the interim and I will await an answer to both that letter and this one.

a) “The Mourners’ Kaddish that follows Mizmor Shir LeYom HaShabbos [in the Kabbalas Shabbos service] should be recited when the yahrzeit [one is observing] falls on Friday or on Shabbos, but not on Shabbos when the yahrzeit falls in the coming week.”2 This [directive was given] by my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita.

b) This coming Friday, a commission of three men from the Fund for [Jewish] Preservation of Chicago is leaving for our Holy Land. Among them is R. Shlomo Palmer.3

c) Enclosed is the kuntreis [published for] Yud-Tes Kislev. [It is being sent to you] to share with people at large.

d) The publications that you ordered will be sent to you.

With greetings to all those who seek our welfare and with blessings for the Festival of Redemption,

Rabbi Menachem Schneerson
