B”H, the Seventh Day of Chanukah, 5711,
Brooklyn, N.Y.

Greetings and blessings,

I was happy to hear about the coming conference to be held in your home next Wednesday with the participation of Mr. Ben Flet and other important personages in order to establish a basis for concrete help for Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch.

For ten years, Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch has been carrying out broad, extensive educational work in this country and in every corner of the world. This vitally important work is carried out with an intense and ardent campaign due to the support of earnest people who know how to evaluate this mission. My revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, זצוקללה"ה, נבג"ם, זי"ע, הכ"ם1, personally took on the burden of a great portion of the budget of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch.

Nevertheless, after the passing of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, הכ"מ, a critical situation arose which threatens the entire existence of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch. Conversely, however, [since we] are aware of the desire of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, הכ"מ, the work is being continued with all of its fervor. [Moreover,] the situation required expanding the activities into North Africa where we have founded an array of educational institutions for children and youth named after their great founder Oholei Yosef Yitzchak.

It is impossible to describe in writing the great merit in participating in the holy work of illuminating Jewish hearts and homes with the light and warmth of our holy Torah and its mitzvos. The Chanukah festival which we are now celebrating should certainly lead us to actual deed. The situation is very critical; the time is short. We hope that the conference will bring good and significant results in actual fact. I hope to hear good tidings from you.

Since my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, הכ"מ, is continuing to direct his institution, he will certainly send his blessings to you, your family, and to all those who participate in this important gathering for the sake of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch. May G‑d grant you good fortune in all your undertakings, [those involving] your personal affairs, those [dedicated to the Jewish people] as a whole, and especially, those undertaken for the sake of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch. May He bless you with health and abundant sustenance.

With Chanukah blessings,

Menachem Schneerson
