This letter was sent to R. Shlomo Yosef Zevin, one of the leading sages of the generation.

B”H, the Fourth Day of Chanukah, 5711,
Brooklyn, N.Y.

Greetings and blessings,

Enclosed is the kuntreis that was published for Chanukah1 which, because of the many preoccupations, was printed with a delay. Nevertheless, you will certainly find many desirable [points] in it at the present time.

In response to your letter: Thank you for the trouble you took in publicizing my opinion and suggestion regarding the elections.2 Certainly, at the appropriate time, you communicated to R. Yitzchak Isaac HaLevi Herzog3 what I wrote to you in my previous letter.

Regarding your statement that from time to time you have some points of halachic debate regarding concepts stated in the Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch and you would like to write me concerning them: Obviously, I will take pleasure in reading your new Torah insights in general, and, in particular, with regard to matters that clarify the Alter Rebbe’s approach, provided that you will not be upset with me if the answer to your letter is delayed because of the many preoccupations that encompass me and increase from time to time.

With Chanukah blessings that each one of us kindle Chanukah lights at the outside of the entrance to one’s home and increase as he proceeds,4

Menachem Schneerson
