B”H, 4 Elul, 5710

Greetings and blessings,

In reply to your letter stating that on the second day of Rosh Chodesh Elul, your son ... will be five years old and that he is being trained to enter cheder....

As per your wishes, I will remember him at the gravesite of my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, הכ"מ, at an appropriate time.

I am sending my blessings that you will merit to raise him to Torah study, marriage, and good deeds amidst prosperity, according to the directives of the Mishnah: 1 “At five, one begins study of the Written Law.” It is explained in Likkutei Torah (in [the maamar entitled] Bior DiLoTashbis), that [the study of] pnimiyus haTorah 2 is included as part of the study of the Written Law (see the Alter Rebbe’s Hilchos Talmud Torah, ch. 2, the conclusion of subsec. 1). 3 May you raise him to Torah study and to “the light of the Torah,” pnimiyus haTorah, which are the teachings of Chassidus Chabad which our Nesi’im gave us as a heritage, and which, for us in particular, [were given by] our Nasi, my revered father-in-law, the Rebbe, הכ"מ.

With blessings for a kesivah vachasimah tovah for you and for your entire household,

Menachem Schneerson
