The Need for Torah Education

To All Participants in the Annual Banquet of the Lubavitch Yeshiva "Achei Tmimim"

Greeting and Blessing:

I was pleased to be informed of the forthcoming Annual Banquet, taking place on the 26th of Adar Sheni, right in the middle between Purim and Pasaeh - the two Geulo Festivals, of which our Sages say, למסמך גאולה לגאולה - "To bring closer one Geulo to the next Geulo." It is for this reason that in a Leap Year, as this year, Purim is celebrated in the second Adar, the one that is immediately next to the month of Nissan, the month in which the next true and final Geulo will be ushered in.

Purim and Pesach have this in common, among other things, that the deliverance of our Jewish people, which we commemorate on these festivals every year, was brought about by the extraordinary dedication to preserve Jewish identity in the face of being in Golus, and "dispersed and scattered among the nations." This dedication expressed itself, first and foremost, by concentrating on the education of our young and very young, as well as those who were "young" in Yiddishkeit and Torah experience.

Indeed, throughout the ages, and wherever Jews lived, Torah Chinuch held the first place as the most vital factor of Jewish existence - especially in a Golus environment. For, obviously, there can be no Jews without Jewishness, no Jewishness without Torah education, and no Torah education without Yeshivos.

I trust, and I am confident, that all participants in this Annual Event will demonstrate their fullest awareness of this simple fact of Jewish life, expressing it in concrete deeds, as enthusiastic active partners in the cause of Torah Chinuch, by their extra generous support of the Lubavitch Yeshiva Achei Tmimim. In addition to the merits of this vital cause itself; it will surely be rewarded by an extra generous measure of Divine blessings in all personal needs materially and spiritually.
