In response to your letter of Motzaei Shabbos Kodesh, Parshas Tazria, in which you ask whether you should accept the offer of Agudas Yisrael2 to travel together with the principal/teacher of Beis Yaakov3 for an extended time during the summer vacation as a representative of Bnos Agudas Yisraelto countries in Western Europe to organize branches of Beis Yaakov, Batya, and Bnos Agudas Yisrael.4 [Your mission will also include] raising money for this purpose. You ask for my approval [to undertake this step].

[In reply:] If the goal is to arrange branches of Beis Yaakov, it is a proper thing. With regard to the collection of funds, however, if possible, you should seek to be excused.

With regard to your question whether I agree to flying by plane if there is no possibility of traveling by ship:5 Undoubtedly, the flight will take place at a time of appropriate weather conditions and you will fly in a large plane.

I am, however, somewhat amazed at the very question itself. Knowing the situation in our Holy Land — that there are many boys and girls who need a kosher education where they will study the Torah with the fear of Heaven — certainly, every educational potential that is there is precious. This is particularly true since the present situation is that every hour and every day, boys and girls are continuously being grabbed away from their spiritual roots. Afterwards, it will be difficult to bring them back to kosher Jewish education. As such, seemingly, instead of traveling to the Diaspora where there is a doubt (if there is a need for work; and even if there is work that is befitting there, perhaps there are local people who can perform it), at a time when there are hundreds and thousands of boys and girls in your locale who are in danger of spiritual extinction, Heaven forbid, there is a great and holy obligation incumbent on all those who are there to do everything possible to save these souls and to influence others to join in this undertaking. For “whoever maintains one Jewish soul is considered as if he maintained an entire world.”6 In particular, [this applies in the present instance, where] tens, hundreds, and thousands [are involved].

I would be interested in knowing whether the group of teachers and friends that meet from time to time to discuss subjects that interest them also bring up the history of Chassidism and relevant concepts from its teachings. [And I would like to know] your part in this.
