אִיתָא שֶׁכָּל הַשָּׁנָה בְּאָמְרוֹ בִּשְׁמוֹנֶה עֶשְׂרֵה וְאֵת כָּל מִינֵי תְבוּאָתָהּ לְטוֹבָה, צָרִיךְ לְכַוֵּן לְחִטִּים לְמַצָּה וְאֶתְרֹג — בְּמָקוֹם אֶחָד נִזְכָּר מִלְּבַד הַנִּזְכָּר לְעִיל גַּם יַיִן לְקִדּוּשׁ — וְאָז בְּמֵילָא תִּהְיֶה כָּל הַתְּבוּאָה לְטוֹבָה.
1 It is stated that throughout the year, when asking in Shemoneh Esreh [that G‑d bless this year] “and all the varieties of its produce for good,”2 we should have in mind the wheat to be used for matzah, and the esrog. One source adds the wine used for Kiddush. Then, as a matter of course, “all of the varieties of its produce” will prosper.3
Delving Deeply
The Rebbe writes in a letter4 that “it is clear that this suggestion does not contradict the simple meaning of the blessing, which refers to all kinds of produce. Rather, [the intent is that] the Torah is the source and the conduit for the creation of all things and for all the beneficent influence in the world. As the Sages say,5 G‑d ‘looked into the Torah and created the world.’… Therefore if all the matters involving the Torah and its mitzvos are as they should be, all the material aspects of creation will also be as they should.”6
