1 When reciting Kiddush at night,2 the blessing Shehecheyanu precedes the blessing leishev basukkah.3
Before the Afternoon Service we do not recite the psalm beginning Hodu,4 but we do recite the passage beginning Pasach Eliyahu.5
The Tzemach Tzedek related: “In 5569 (1808), for the sixth time, we heard my grandfather [the Alter Rebbe] deliver the first of the [two] maamarim in Likkutei Torah6 that are entitled U’She’avtem Mayim (“And you shall draw water [in joy from the wellsprings of deliverance]”7 ). The experience was reminiscent of the comment of the Sages8 (Talmud Yerushalmi, Sukkah 5:1), ‘From there they drew [ruach hakodesh].’9 At Simchas Beis HaShoevah, Yonah received prophetic revelation. [When we heard the above maamar], we received an infinite revelation — ad Ein Sof.10 And in the end,11 Mashiach will come, for12 ‘the beginning is rooted in the end.’”13
A Story with an Echo
Once R. Shlomo of Karlin was visiting the Alter Rebbe. After spending some time in private discussion, the two Rebbeim entered the Beis HaMidrash where their disciples were studying and praying. “Do you see this chassid,” R. Shlomo boasted to the Alter Rebbe, “he has had a revelation of Eliyahu HaNavi.”
The Alter Rebbe then pointed out one of his chassidim, R. Binyamin Kletzker, and said: “Do you see this chassid? The essence of his soul shines overtly within him. And that revelation is even loftier than the revelation of Eliyahu HaNavi.”

For a Lubavitcher chassid, the point is not merely to appreciate the spiritual source of the Rebbe’s teachings, but to identify with it and internalize it.
