It’s customary to eat potato latkes (fried potato pancakes) on Chanukah, to remind us of the miracle of the oil.

Looking at my latke recipe, I realized I could easily spruce them up. After all, I love edible crafts!

A dreidel latke? Yummo! And who wouldn’t love a menorah latke?

This super simple idea will definitely enhance your Chanukah celebrations.

  • 5lb. potatoes
  • 1 large onion
  • 4 eggs
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1 tbsp. salt
  • ¼ tsp. black pepper

  1. Peel the potatoes and put them in ice cold water so they don’t turn brown.
  2. Blend the potatoes and mix in the rest of the ingredients. Drain the extra liquid.
  3. Fill your frying pan halfway with oil and heat it up. Make sure your oil is at the right temperature for frying. You can do this by dropping a small amount of better into the oil and seeing if it sizzles. When it sizzles, it’s ready.
  4. Carefully put your cookie cutters into the pan and fill them with batter. Fry for several minutes. When they no longer stick to the bottom of the pan and you can easily move them, they are ready to flip. Turn over and brown on the second side.
  5. Remove from the pan and let them cool for a few minutes. Be careful – the cookie cutters are HOT! Run a knife along the edge of the latkes to help them out easily.
  6. Repeat until batter is finished.
  7. Serve with apple sauce of the condiments of your choice. They are so delicious and yummy!
