Tamar, Daughter-in-law of Judah: (a) Originally married to Judah's son Er. After Er’s death, she married his brother Onan. After Onan died, too, she lured Judah into a relationship and had twins from him, Zerach and Peretz (progenitor of King David). According to the Midrash, she was the daughter of Shem. (b) A common Jewish name.
