Simeon the Righteous: From the last members of the Great Assembly, served as high priest and head of the Sanhedrin for 40 years. In 313 BCE, when the Samaritans tried to have the Holy Temple destroyed, Simeon met with Alexander the Great who agreed to leave the Temple standing, foiling the Samaritans' plot.
