Doug Richter is a cardiologist in Southern NJ and an artist by hobby with no formal training other than a class in high school. He mostly sketched in pencil until recently trying his hand at painting with acrylics on canvas. He was motivated by the Arts Weekend held annually at his synagogue.

Artist’s Statement: This is my second painting ever. I thought the image of an outdoor Hagbah was very powerful but could mean different things to different people in very much the same way that the Torah can be interpreted in many different ways.
