After successfully interpreting Nebuchadnezzar's dream, he was appointed to a high government position. During the reign of Belshazzar, Daniel deciphered writing that mysteriously appeared, predicting Babylon's downfall. He was thrown into a lions' den during Darius’ reign for praying to G-d; miraculously, he wasn’t harmed. (b) A common Jewish name.
