Vespasian:  Emperor of Rome from 69 until 79 CE, father of Titus. In 66 CE Emperor Nero sent Vespasian, then a general in the Roman army, to Judea to quell the revolt there. Vespasian restored Roman control over Judea, killing thousands of Jews, decimating the Galilee and laying siege to Jerusalem. During the siege, he was appointed Emperor, and returned to Rome.
