Spice up the festival of lights with a Mexican appetizer party menu!
On Chanukah we traditionally eat fried foods to remind us of the miracle of Chanukah, when the oil meant to last only one night lasted eight nights instead. Additionally, it is traditional to eat cheese-based dairy products, to recall the miraculous downfall of the evil general Holofernes at the hands of Yehudit, who beheaded him after feeding him cheese.
For most of us, we commemorate this miracle with potato latkes, sour cream and applesauce, as well as sufganiyot (jelly-filled doughnuts). But by the third or fourth night of latkes, there’s a pretty good chance your family will be asking for something different. If you’re planning a Chanukah party this season, or even if you just want to give your family a special treat, try making it a fiesta with an assortment of fried Mexican goodies.
