Damage to Houston Buildings Significant, But Manageable

As the weather from Hurricane Ike and an unrelated storm front cleared, residents of Houston – spared the worst of the wind and rain that pounded the island community of Galveston 45 minutes away – took out their cameras to record the damage to their homes and businesses. Local Chabad-Lubavitch institutions sustained flood damage, torn roofs and toppled fences.

A Galveston building owned by Omri Shafran, a 32-year-old Israeli resident of Houston, sustained heavy damage during the onslaught of coastal flooding and 100 mph winds packed by Hurricane Ike.
