Campers Storm Supermarket on the Hunt for Kosher Food
July 15, 2008
Dozens of children aged six to 12 descended on a Birmingham, Ala., supermarket on the prowl for kosher foodstuffs. The Friday scavenger hunt for the campers from the older division of the local Camp Gan Israel, a Jewish day camp operated by Chabad-Lubavitch of Alabama, allowed the children to put their newfound knowledge of Jewish dietary law to use as they scoured the aisles for packages bearing one of several labels attesting to the products’ kosher status.

The July 11 scavenger hunt was one of dozens of activities the Lubavitch-run day camp has on its summer agenda, including a visit to an area cavern and a karate program.
