Chabad-Lubavitch yeshiva students from the bombarded Israeli coastal city of Ashkelon went up north to spend a Shabbat at the Chabad House in Kiryat Ata, a Haifa suburb that was itself targeted by rocket fire during the Second Lebanon War in 2006.

Rabbi Chaim Diskin, director of the Chabad House, provided funding for the weekend with the help of the local municipality as a way to help the teenage students take a break from the war, which had forced them to learn in bomb shelters.

Said Diskin: “The weekend was a way to restore their strength so that they can continue studying and serving the community in Ashkelon.” …
