Rudrani Devi, a survivor of the Mumbai terror attacks who is recovering from emergency surgery and a leg fracture, helped light Tennessee’s tallest Chanukah menorah from her wheelchair at the state capitol in Nashville.

In front of a crowd of 150, Devi – a non-Jewish woman who was shot at the restaurant café in the Oberoi Hotel, but was spared when a grenade thrown next to her head did not explode – joined Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi Yitzchok Tiechtel of Congregation Beit Tefilah in Bellevue for the ceremony, later telling reporters the reason for her participation: “I, too, believe in the power of light.”

Said Tiechtel: “She has truly experienced darkness, and her message illustrates the message of Chanukah, that light prevails and endures in the face of darkness.” …
