Among the 15 members of Israel’s Chief Rabbinate Council sworn in Tuesday at the official residence of President Shimon Peres was Rabbi Shimon Elituv, a Chabad-Lubavitch emissary, director of Jerusalem’s Oz Meir Chabad yeshiva, and director of the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council.

Elituv, who received the most votes in an internal Chief Rabbinate election back in September, said after the ceremony that he’ll work to bridge the perceived divide between Israel’s religious establishment and its citizenry.
