A group of 40 advocates of school vouchers held a rally in West Orange, N.J., in support of legislation they dubbed the “Civil Rights Act for Equal Educational Opportunity.”

At the July 3 conference, Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi Shea Hecht, chairman of the National Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education, urged citizens to back the public funding of private and parochial education.

Stressing that education is a truly public issue, Hecht pointed out that parents who send their children to private schools face a significant burden in paying tuition.

“This is one thing that really affects all of us, because we have children or grandchildren, or because we pay school taxes of one sort or another,” Hecht said, according to the New Jersey Jewish News. “This is something that we should all speak out on.” …
