Workers conducting infrastructure improvements near Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine’s central Golden Rose Synagogue discovered a World War II-era artillery shell, prompting the evacuation of personnel.

According to the Web site of the Federation of Jewish Communities of the Former Soviet Union, police sappers immediately responded. They determined that the 122-mm. shell was severely damaged by rust and was missing part of its fuse.

After a brief investigation, the synagogue, led by Rabbi Shmuel Kaminetzki, a Chabad-Lubavitch emissary and the city’s chief rabbi, was pronounced free from any danger. …
