With more than 300 city residents looking on, Mayor Motti Sasson of Cholon, Israel, conferred the special “Mayor’s Shield” award on Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi David Biton and 11 other volunteers.

A committee recommended the rabbi for the honor in deference to his five years of work in the community as part of Chabad-Lubavitch of Cholon, directed by Rabbi Yerachmiel Gorelik.

The mayor made note of Biton’s round-the-clock availability to residents, whom he frequently visits at their homes.

Biton also regularly visits with patients at a local rehabilitation center, where he gives a weekly Torah class. …
