The Rabbinical Council of the United Synagogue in England appointed Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi Yitzchok Schochet to serve as its chairman for the next three years.
Schochet, who since 1993 has served as the rabbi of London’s Mill Hill Synagogue, replaces outgoing chairman Rabbi Mordechai Shlomo Ginsbury of Hendon United Synagogue in Raleigh Close.
In addition to his new position, Schochet serves as a member of Chief Rabbi Sir Jonathan Sacks’ cabinet and is principal of the Rosh Pinah Primary School in the North London suburb of Edgware.
