Just one month after a suspected arson gutted a Chabad House in Miami Beach, Fla., local Jewish community members pledged to donate two new Torah scrolls to replace the one that disappeared during the blaze.
According to the Miami Herald, a Broward County woman who wants to honor her deceased parents and a couple who commute between Miami and New York stepped forward to help ensure that the congregation, directed by Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi Zev and Chani Katz, emerges from the ashes stronger than before.
“I’ve never done anything like this before,” the woman, who chose to remain anonymous, told the paper. “But a Torah is opened all the time and it lasts for generations. It’s a way to remember my parents, who were very good people.” …
