The Jewish community centered around the Brooklyn, N.Y., neighborhood of Park Slope will be celebrating a milestone Thursday as community leaders gather to break ground for the area’s first ritual bath, known in Hebrew as a mikvah.

The new building will house two state-of-the-art mikvahs, one for men and one for women, said Rabbi Shimon Hecht, co-director of Chabad-Lubavitch of Park Slope.

In addition, the structure will contain a conference room and hospitality suites for visitors who need to be close to the local hospital.

“This is very important for the community,” said the rabbi. “People here are anxiously looking forward to this project.” …
