Florida educator David Lazerson, whose musical flair and dedication to his students have earned him accolades throughout his career, will be inducted into the National Teachers Hall of Fame in a ceremony in June.

According to a report in The Miami Herald, Lazerson, a Chabad-Lubavitch Chasid and native of the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, N.Y., will be the state's ninth teacher named to the institution.

Lazerson, who wrote a memoir about his experiences during the 1991 race riots that struck Crown Heights, taught in the New York and Miami school systems before moving to Broward, Fla., public school system in 2002.

He teaches music at the Quest Center, a learning facility for students with special needs, where he earned the Broward County Arts Teacher of the Year award in 2007. ...
