Leaders in Russia's Udmurtia republic lobbied the federal subject's President Alexander Volkov for a land grant to house a synagogue and cemetery.
Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi Mikhoel Urin, chief rabbi of Izhevsk, Russia, and Jewish community chairman Petr Dulisov briefed Volkov on the future plans of the community, which currently numbers some 5,000 people.
Volkov reviewed the architectural plans of the synagogue, and remarked that the structure, if approved, would beautify the city. He also pledged his support in trying to find space for the new cemetery. ...
