Jewish communal leaders in Volzhsky, Russia, met with Mayor Igor Voronin last week to discuss the community’s future and the possibility of cooperation with municipal authorities.
It was the first meeting between Voronin and Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi Ariel Triger, who recently arrived as an emissary to the city of 311,000 people.
Jewish community chairman Gary Tarlovsky also participated in the conversation in which the mayor reportedly pledged his support for the nascent Jewish renaissance taking place in the southern Russia locale. …
