Chabad-Lubavitch students greeted the thousands of Chassidic Jews and their leaders who arrived in Lezajsk, Poland, last week to mark the anniversary of the passing of the Chassidic sage, Rabbi Elimelech of Lizensk.

One of the disciples of Rabbi DovBer, the Baal Shem Tov’s successor known as the Maggid of Mezritch, Rabbi Elimelech was a contemporary of the first Chabad Rebbe, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi. The students made the trek from their yeshivah in Warsaw as a show of solidarity with the other Chassidim and offered them the chance to purchase books of Chassidic philosophy.

Rabbi Zalman Leib Teitelbaum, the Satmar Rebbe from the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, N.Y., bought a volume of the first Chabad Rebbe’s teachings. …
