In town for BakuTel, the 17th Azerbaijan International Exhibition and Conference on Telecommunications and Information Technologies, Israeli Communications Minister Moshe Kahlon, who also holds the welfare and social services portfolio, toured the Ohr Avner Chabad Day School, a 3,500 square meter complex that educates 250 children in the Azerbaijan capital of Baku.

Accompanied by Israeli Ambassador Michael Lavon-Lotem and led by Chabad-Lubavitch Rabbi Shneur Segal, the country’s chief rabbi, Kahlon signaled his admiration for the institution and the work of Chabad rabbis all over the globe. He said that through places like Ohr Avner, Jews seemingly cut off from their roots could take part in a Jewish community and get reacquainted with their heritage.

The Jewish community of Baku is a member of the Federation of Jewish Communities of the Former Soviet Union.
