In a first for the Nordic country, Finland’s sole Jewish legislator affixed a traditional biblical scroll known as a mezuzah to his office’s doorpost.

Coalition Party MP Ben Zyskowicz acquired the scroll with the help of Rabbi Benyamin Wolff, the Helsinki-based director of Chabad-Lubavitch of Finland.

“I asked him, ‘Would you like to put up a mezuzah in your office?’ ” relates Wolff. “He said, ‘Of course!’ ”

The only Jewish member of the Finnish parliament, Zyskowicz has attended past Chabad-run public menorah lightings in the city.

“It is recognized by all that he is a proud Jew,” says Wolff.
