Israeli Police recognized the efforts of an Eilat rabbi whose quick thinking ended in a successful arrest in the Red Sea resort town.

Rabbi Shimon Eisenbach, co-director of Chabad-Lubavitch of Shakhmon Eilat, received a plaque from District Cmdr. Moshe Cohen at a ceremony last week. The gathering came five years after Eisenbach and his daughter were walking home the night of Purim and heard a woman screaming and chasing after a robber.

Eisenbach ran and caught up with the man, holding him until police arrived.

The rabbi recalls his running after the robber as pure instinct.

“At that moment,” he says, “I just knew that I needed to help.”

After receiving his award, Eisenbach told assembled police officers about Divine protection and invited Cohen to don tefillin.
