Rising to the Challenge
Sara Korn in conversation with Chana Weisberg
Sara Korn co-directs Chabad House for the Bowery and NYU, together with her husband Rabbi Dov Yona Korn. Originally from New York City, Sara spent time on the West Coast studying natural medicine. Through a series of incredible instances of Divine providence, Sara discovered that her true passion is Jewish mysticism and sharing the beauty of a Torah based lifestyle. Sarah loves to share this passion through teaching. She also loves to cook, shmooze, eat, dance, paint, write, do yoga, and live life to the fullest.
Chana Weisberg is the editor of TheJewishWoman.org and host of the Ordinary People, Extraordinary Stories podcast. She lectures internationally on issues relating to women, relationships, meaning, self-esteem and the Jewish soul. She is the author of six books. Her latest book, Shabbat Delights, is a two-volume series on the weekly Torah portion.

Miracles Yes! My husband for over 20 years was dedicated to as some refer to it as an "Intentional Community" or a " Village"or a "Cult." I was in and out of "It" over years, We actually married in a Yurt within the group.Over time I was "kicked out" and then later my husband. We will celebrate- Hashem willing- 40 Years married this month. B"H! So I was Most interested and delighted by Sara and her journey and Chana's respect and sensitive questions. Thank you and Please the Second Story! Reply

Can you share the name of the cult? I was also in a Christian Cult before making my way back to Yiddishkeit and Chasisdus Chabad. Unfortunately I was in for 7.5 years! Sara is lucky she got out after 4 weeks! What a great, genuine, heartfelt story!! Reply

I love this story. So amazing ...how we are all carrying around our own inner truth and battling the other side within and outside of us..while Hashem gently pushes us forward towards our life's fulfillment. ...the light of Torah. Fantastic ...please let's have more!! Reply

Rachael M T June 11, 2025

Interesting story. Just wondering howcome she's calling grateful dead a Christian cult when that band was not really chrisitan.
And did her close friend who is a Christian..did she not feel offended?
Just wondering.
Anyways mazal tov on finding your place with God. Reply

Binyomin Karpelevitch Morristown via chabadfremont.com June 12, 2025
in response to Rachael M T:

I think you are misunderstanding, there were two different stages, one where she was going to grateful dead concerts, and later she was a member of a Christian cult. Happened to be that the Christian cult found her at the side of a grateful dead concert, but they are obviously not affiliated Reply
