Difficulty and hardship (shared poverty, physical or financial hardship, prolonged serious illness) often help guide a couple towards realizing whether what they have is true love or not. Without these as proving grounds many couples are left with only superficial fleeting notions about what true love is all about. The garbage they show on television, in movies, etc… is all worthless.
