• 2 cups flour
  • ½ tsp. baking soda
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 tbsp. cognac
  • 2 tbsp. water
  • 1 quart (1 liter) oil
  • Powdered sugar

  1. Mix the flour, baking soda, eggs, cognac and water until mixture comes together in a ball. Knead.
  2. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let rest 30 minutes.
  3. Divide the dough into four balls. Cover with plastic wrap and let rest 10 minutes.
  4. Heat the oil in a pot.
  5. Roll the first ball of dough into a rectangle. Cut into two strips, and cut small slits along one side of each piece (as shown in the video).
  6. Wrap the dough around a fork and gently lower into the oil. Use two forks to shape the dough into a rose. When golden, remove from oil.
  7. Repeat with remaining dough. Dust with confectioners sugars.
