On musical scales Thank you Rabbi for this dvar Torah. While it is true that the well-tempered western chromatic scale (i.e. a piano keyboard) has 12 tones, there are magnificent musical traditions that incorporate, for example, pentatonic (5 note) hexatonic (6 note) modal (7 note) and microtonal (more than 12 note) scales. Our own musical traditions (chazanus, niggunim, klezmer) regularly employ tones that lie between those of the western chromatic scale.
