The institution of Ezra was not a Halachic prohibition of doing laundry on Friday. It was rather a communal institution to ensure the proper upkeep of Shabbos. One may do Laundry on Friday if it was not possible beforehand. Reply

so one cannot do laundry Thursday night as that is already Friday according to halachic times. Reply
