An hour-long excerpt from a 1981 satellite feed of a gathering with the Rebbe, of righteous memory, in honor of the 12th of Tammuz.
The 12th of Tammuz marks the anniversary of the release of Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak of Lubavitch, the Rebbe’s father-in-law and predecessor, from Soviet prison in 1927, where he was incarcerated for his activities in spreading Judaism in the Soviet Union.
This excerpt presents the third talk of the farbrengen, in which the Rebbe focuses on the topic of education. This talk picks us after previously relating the story of his predecessor’s first arrest at eleven years of age, where he shared a prison cell with a moaning calf whilst he reviewed Torah teachings from memory, thus demonstrating “the superiority of man over beast.”
The Rebbe draws lessons on the urgent need for children to be raised with the knowledge of a Higher Being, an “eye that sees and ear that hears” everything they do. He also cautions that a society that ignores its responsibility to educate its children about the existence of G‑d risks losing its bearings.
