12 Staffs Each of the Tribes were represented by a staff, with only one staff representing (the tribe's of) Yosef. To those 11, a 12th representing the (Aaron &) tribe of Levi was added. In total; 12 (identical - see Eben Ezra)staffs corresponding to (the original) 12 tribes were place in the Mishkan. Ranban says that on each staff the name of the Nassi (tribal leader) rather than the name of the tribe was inscribed. If so, an interesting question could be raised: which Nassi (Efriam or Maneshe's) was inscribed on the staff of Yosef? Conversly, Rabbeinu Efriam maintains that the name of the tribe was inscribed - which removes that question. Thats al the info I have... Hope it helps! Reply

12 staffs Did Moses collect one staff from each tribe plus one from Aaron ? Ephraim and Manasseh
being the sons of Joseph; did they count as one representation and their staff represent the household of Joseph or were they representing Joseph twice? My basic question was it 12 staffs + 1 from LEVI OR 11 staffs + Aaron's. Reply

Thank you so much Rabbi Kaplan, I really enjoyed it very much. Question: Is there a connection with the almond cups that was formed for the Menorah and the almonds budded on the Staff of Aharon? Both were meriting Aharon. He lit the menorah and his staff budded. Again, thank you for such an inspiring teaching. Reply
