Solace in Seven

The first of seven haftorahs describing G‑d’s promise of ultimate comfort and consolation begins with G‑d’s command to Isaiah, “Comfort, comfort My people!”

Isaiah’s prophecy teaches the importance of becoming one’s own comforter and nurturer.

There is comfort that comes from above, and comfort that comes from each person’s own heart. Each has a distinct advantage. Is there a way to have both?

Isaiah's words spur us on to reach the ultimate in Divine comfort.

Finding ultimate comfort through our unyielding devotion to the will of G‑d.

What makes us feel better? When we are taken care of, or when we take care of others?

The joyous climax of all divine comfort—the revelation of G‑d’s sovereignty in this world.
