The story of Elisha Ben Avuya This is the first time that I heard this story and understood how Ellisha erred in his interpretation of the event that he saw. It occurred to me that perhaps the child who had fulfilled the two mitzvoth of honoring his father and sending away the mother bird has fulfilled the purpose of his life and that his death was not a mistake. the reaction of Elisha to an apparent injustice demonstrates that there was always hope for him and that he had a yetzer hatov ("good inclination"). It is not unusual for sensitive people who are upset to be mistaken in their judgment. Even though this was not the purpose of Rabbi Riskin's talk I found this understanding when I listened to it and I am thankful for it. I enjoyed the talk very much. Reply
