Politics of Jerusalem The state of Israel since its inception in 1948 has already waged three major wars with Arabian states. Camp David Agreement was signed and in the later period Palestinian were granted with some kind of Self Rule. However, the Palestinian people were not happy with the creation of Jewish State and have strong sympathizers and support base from the Arabian peninsula states. Almost all the Arab states does not recognize Israel as political entity and are bent upon destroying the Israeli state. In my opinion future survival of Israel depends largely on the game of political diplomacy and its own military preparedness. Jerusalem has become symbol of history and politics and Bone of Contention for both Jews and Palestinian. I admire the Israeli future military weapons and unique dedications of Jews Army and the people. Reply

You gotta love Israel Even as a non-Jew, you gotta love the Israeli army. Even your helicopters are beautiful and show style. I like the colors. No other country but Israel might have to combine prayer with making war. You're God's people at last. This is your land, and you know what? If there's one thing I do not doubt, it's that God will never allow Israel to get destroyed. The Yom Kippur war has shown this. Btw, what a very evil spirited act to start war on the very holiest day of the people. Shame on the guys who started that. Even when you're at war - in my opinion - you gotta keep a certain dignity and respect your enemy. Just shows how special Israel is, as I'm sure you would have never ever done something like that.

spiritual/physical defense Truly Israel is so unique and one of the reason it still exist is because of Torah. I've heard many wonderful things about the IDF including one of it's units called the Netzah Yehuda Battalion, a unit conducive to religious convictions. Is this battalion considered a pausible solution to the exemption described?. Reply

Those in Israel who feel that studying Torah are not defending the Land are those who don't understand why we are even entitled to it. Bravo for making it crystal clear. Those who don't believe this message must not be accorded political power. It will be the demise of your power and glory. Reply

I respectfully agree, and disagree Rabbi: I wholly agree with the assertion that study of Torah is an important mitvah and incredibly important insofar as nurturing a moral 'center' of an individual or even an entire nation. But the exemption was created when there were very few young men studying Torah. Now that population has exploded. Yet the danger to Israel and the Jewish people is as great as it ever was. Also take into account the fact that these young men are starting what will most likely be large families, yet not learning a trade to support them...and we have quite a dilemma. One could say that these Torah scholars are surviving in Israel because of the blood shed by someone elses son, and are being taken care of by the state through the taxes of people who work in the 'real' world. The future of the State of Israel rests as much on the peace and compromises made between the religious and secular as it does between the Jews and the arabs. Reply
